The first yearbook at ASU was the Yearling, first published in 1921. The last
edition of the Yearling was published in 1933. After a four year lapse, the 1937
senior class resurrected the yearbook and in 1937 the first edition of the
INDIAN was published.
The INDIAN was not published from 1942-1946 because of World War II. Government
restrictions limited paper consumption.
By 1966, the INDIAN had grown to a record 328 pages. The 1967 INDIAN marked the
first edition of a yearbook for Arkansas State University.
In 1985 the INDIAN helped celebrate the university's 75th anniversary and in the
late 80s the INDIAN started being produced on computers. In 1998 the INDIAN
celebrated its 75th edition. The largest INDIAN was produced in 1999 having 400
pages. This year the INDIAN was produced in full color & all digital with the
newest software on the market, InDesign CS2.
