Mission
Statement
The purpose of the office of volunteer opportunities is to provide students and
organizations
within the ASU community a place to volunteer, learn and make a difference. The
office of volunteer
opportunities also wants to provide students with connections throughout the
campus and the
community that can be used throughout their college career and for the rest of
their life.
Vision
The office of volunteer opportunities will provide all students with a diverse
variety of places to
volunteer. We will also provide new or current organizations with places to
volunteer if needed.
The volunteer opportunities will have and maintain effective communication
between the
students and agencies throughout the community. A database will be kept current
by the volunteer
opportunities with current agencies on campus and the community that utilize
volunteers. A relationship
within the different scholastic departments on campus will be formed to provide
more students
opportunities for developing career ideas.
Objectives
Establish strong public relations tools within campus of what the volunteer
opportunities can provide for the student.
1. Provide each student organization and every department a letter at the
beginning of each school year. This should inform students of our purpose and
what we are here to do
2. Presentations in organizational meetings and classrooms as needed
3. Developing brochures and flyers as a way of advertising
4. Developing a web site for the volunteer center in connection with the Office
of Student Involvement
Establishing strong public relations tools within the community of what the
volunteer opportunities office can provide for the student.
1. Making personal contacts (i.e. telephone call, email or personal visit) with
agencies seeking volunteers
2. Maintain an up-to-date list of businesses and their contact information
3. Provide volunteer agencies with a volunteer fair annually that allows them to
showcase their business and need for volunteerism.
Provide students a place in the campus and community to volunteer. The purpose
of this being for personal development, career opportunities, community service
hours.
1. The volunteer coordinator will hold office hours and provide a place of
contact for students so that they can be placed into volunteer positions that
they desire.
2. Provide at least one significant event each semester that students will be
able to volunteer at or that will direct them to a place to volunteer.
3. Provide diverse opportunities within the campus and community that will allow
students to gain experience by volunteering.
Plan and implement a volunteer fair annually.
1. Contact and invite agencies interested in having volunteers
2. Provide registration forms and equipment to set up with
3. Do the necessary advertising for the students to know and understand the
purpose of the volunteer fair
4. Provide a form of evaluating the fair for the agencies and the students
Plan and implement a philanthropic event in conjunction with Martin Luther King
Jr. Day of Service
1. The volunteer opportunities office will join together with the MLK Day of
Service committee to plan an event of volunteering.
2. The event will be able to include any student that wishes to participate
Assist and help plan the Holiday Celebration by including a charity in addition
to the other activities.
1. The volunteer coordinator and chairperson of the Holiday Celebration will
work together to add volunteerism into the event (i.e. bringing canned goods,
toys for underprivileged children)
