TRANSFER STUDENTS

Non-traditional Student Services welcomes you!  We're glad you're interested

in transferring to Arkansas State University and we're excited to tell you more

about our university. Each year, we welcome about more and more students to

our campus whom have began their college career elsewhere.

Non-traditional Student Services is here to help you expand your academic and social boundaries.  Everything you need is within your reach. Explore our academic programs and unique opportunities, find out about campus life, get the basics on our admission requirements, apply online, and even determine how your credits might transfer. Make sure you come by the admission office, call us, or you can visit us on the web for more information at Admissions.astate.edu/senior_info

Here are just a few tips that will help you on your way!

Before you enroll to a four year institution discuss your educational plans with a community college counselor, transfer center director, or academic advisor.  Then make an appointment with the admissions office at the prospective university for a personal tour and speak with all entities involved in your decision (advisors, instructors, student service areas, etc.).

While at your community college, inquire about admission requirements and be sure that your plan of study includes courses to fulfill these requirements. Your counselor can tell you which majors are overcrowded and inform you of supplementary admission requirements.

  • Read the university undergraduate bulletin carefully of the prospective university. Pay special attention to the sections on transfer and certification of general education requirements.
  • Be sure to enroll in courses that are transferable or those needed for placement in transferable courses. Transferable courses are those that the prospective university will accept towards a baccalaureate degree. (Remedial courses and many vocational courses are not transferable.) To ensure that you are successful in your college studies, your counselor may advise you to take some basic skills courses before you enroll in transferable courses.
  • Find out which lower-division courses are required for the major in which you are interested. Be sure the courses you take to meet these requirements will be accepted toward the degree at the campus you plan to attend.
  • Familiarize yourself with general education and other baccalaureate degree requirements.
  • Review the website for information about the application process and/or deadlines for prospective transfers.
  • Do not forget about checking with financial aid, housing, and other student services that you may need.

Now you are ready for the ride, let’s go!
